Like Google News? Hah! Pitiful. Now a news service with 175m reporters – that’d be something. And Twitter co-founder Biz Stone wants to make one. He’s talking up the idea of a Twitter news service. Is that an intriguing idea or the recipe for a soup of supposition and downright lies?
Twitter is already a powerful news source for plenty of reporters and news junkies but Biz Stone wants to go even further. He told Reuters TV: “I think a Twitter news service would be something that would be very open and shared with many different news organisations around the world.”
Stone hasn’t gone into details about the Twitter news service yet but there’s some suggestions that it could be created using Twitter’s existing partnerships as well as new connections. Twitter is currently tied up with Google, Bing and Yahoo but it looks like it’d pull in others for any news service.
Twitter communications guru Sean Garrett jumped on to Twitter to cool the speculation about a Twitter news service. He says: “No plans for Twitter news network…Biz pondered how news orgs could so this on their own (or together). Perhaps w/direct access to Twitter data all hypothetical.”
Should a Twitter news service jump from Biz Stone’s brain to reality? Hit the comments and let us know…
