Its full title is Video on Demand powered by Qriocity, and it allows you to browse, search, preview and select movies via your Sony Bravia TV remote control. You’ll find it under the cross media bar on the main menu.

When you rent a film you get 14 days to start watching the movie, and 48 hours to watch the film as many times as you can cram once you’ve hit play. Already in on Qriocity are a whole raft of the big studios, including Lionsgate, MGM, Paramount, Sony, and Disney to name a few, and there’s new releases, classics and local language films too.

You can rent films in SD or HD, with SD rental prices at less than HD rental prices. Rental prices for SD content start at £2.49 for older content and £3.49 for new releases, while HD content starts at £4.49 for new releases and £3.49 for everything else. Saw this come up on my Sony blu-ray player at the weekend – prices are too high for me to be interested. If HD rentals were around the £2.00 I'd be more interested. Until then I'll keep my Lovefilm subscription
