After we reported last week that 40 per cent of The Cloud hotspots we tested did not work or were not present, The Cloud has responded, and set up an email address for Electricpig readers who’ve had trouble with hotspots from The Cloud. Read on for the full response.

The biggest problem we found when trying to connect to The Cloud was that Wi-Fi hotspots were not where they were listed as being in the app and online. The Cloud however, said that: “The Hotspot lists are updated on a weekly basis with all the latest information (new additions and removals).”

“However, there are on occasion issues with the entries in terms of addresses and the location info, so we recently added the ‘Help us make FastConnect better’ functionality, which allows users to quickly feedback when map locations are not spot on.”

The Cloud said it received feedback this weekend on Wi-Fi NotSpots, and is “working through those at the moment to get the updates live”, but that if hotspots were not showing up at locations it was either that the venue had turned off the router or there’s a technical problem with the router. We asked what The Cloud did about this, and they said that the venue should receive a call to resolve the matter.

The question is, if there’s so much in place to help venues, and to stop bad listings, then why did we still find 40 per cent of The Cloud hotspots to be NotSpots? However, if you find a NotSpot powered by The Cloud, Electricpig readers can email notspots@thecloud.net.

This looks like another one of your paid promotions, so you created this just to promote The Cloud?

Shouldn't this be labelled as a paid for promotion?

Either way, they did rather well and I'm glad the wifi providers are sorting it out. I prefer that I can email the cloud than have to ring BT about Openzone… if you've ever had to ring a BT helpdesk, you'll understand why.

Hi JJ, thanks for the comment. Have you called a BT helpdesk? Can you tell us your experience?

Actually nothanks it's completely the opposite. We tested Wi-Fi hotspots around London, and reported that we found 40% of The Cloud hotspots to be either not present or not available. The Cloud responded, as you might expect them to do, and in the interests of communicating with our readers and treating the providers fairly we've published their response. If you took a closer look, you'd notice we did the same for BT Openzone.
