Apple has plans for free MobileMe. That’s the rumour that’s rattling around after folk went rooting around in the latest iOS 4.2 beta. Settings within the iOS 4.2 software seems to show that MobileMe will use your AppleID rather than MobileMe account info. That suggests that a new free version of MobileMe is coming. Error messages lurking in the iOS 4.2 beta declare: “The maximum number of free accounts have been activated on this iPhone” and “This iPad is not qualified for free MobileMe service.” That seems pretty clear to us. Apple has long been rumoured to be prepping a free MobileMe service and that could tie perfectly into iTunes streaming plans too.
