View Quest BookBox unboxed; photos and video

We’ve nabbed a View Quest BookBox, one of the super cheap 5-inch colour eReaders that’s just gone on sale at HMV, for a closer inspection. Want to know how it shapes up? Check it out here in our gallery and video.

If you missed the announcement yesterday, the View Quest BookBox is an eReader and media player with a 5-inch colour 800×480 screen. Nothing remarkable, sure, but the £79.99 asking price is certainly one of the lowest we’ve seen yet.

Is it worth it? As you’ll see in the View Quest BookBox unboxing video, we’d say the fluorescent packaging is perhaps compensating for something. The screen is average, and if you intend on carrying this around in your trouser pocket, you are going to get some strange looks.

But it’s certainly got strong eBook format support, and we’ve not tested the video support, so we’re certainly not writing the View Quest BookBox off just yet. Let us know if you have any burning queries about it (Is it better than an Amazon Kindle?) and drop them in the comments below. Stay tuned for your answers in our review.

I bought one on the weekend, the tft screen is great; i thought i'd mainly be reading on it but I keep watching videos on it. Probably heading back to get my mum one as well. Is e-ink such a big deal anymore?
