At Web 2.0, Evan Williams revealed that the Who To Follow recommendations on Twitter are based on secret reputation scores which each user gets. According to Ev, Twitter’s “science and math people” (it’s MATHS, Ev) have systems to generate the Who To Follow algorithm and that uses the secret reputation score. He wouldn’t reveal exactly how the Twitter reputation score is generated but suggested it might go public eventually but “it has to evolve more” first.
