The Palm Pre 2 UK price and launch date have just been shoved into the public domain by HP and Palm. Want to know when the second gen webOS smartphone goes on sale here? Read on! Hint: it’s really, really soon.

HP, which bought Palm earlier this year, announced the Palm Pre 2 a few weeks ago, along with a juicy webOS 2.0 update for existing Pre and Pixi owners, but now we know just when you’ll be able to get the 1GHz, five megapixel camera phone with a slide out keyboard here and for how much.

The Palm Pre 2 UK price will be £399 when it goes on sale on Monday 15 November, sold SIM free through palm.com/uk. It’s an unusual approach when network subsidies are so important in making powerful smartphones affordable, and it’s not clear what happened to Palm’s relationship with O2. Still, we’ll take this in place of a four month delay behind US launch, as we were beginning to get used to with Palm.

As well as the new hardware, the Palm Pre 2 comes with webOS 2.0, which has a rejigged card multitasking system, expanded Synergy and universal search support, and Flash 10.1 video streaming support. HP says the HP webOS 2.0 update for existing webOS phones will hit “in the coming months”.

Will you be buying one? What do you make of the Palm Pre 2 UK price? Let us know in the comments below!

I would really like a Web 2.0 OS device to try, I think it has true potential but HP really needs to think about selling it at a loss (is £99 achievable?), its the only way to muscle in on Apple, RIM, Android and now WM7. Ultimately if the OS is as good as they say it has a chance, but not at £399 without a sim. I might look at getting an older Pre if it gets down to £99 and upgrade the OS in a few months, or maybe Tesco can do a cheap contact deal for either phone. Surely its the software that makes HP any real money.

I do hope Palm has moved away from using O2 as they never pushed the pre at all. They need to get another provider selling the Pre2 to give the phone some coverage as at the moment the only people that would buy this phone is the like of me that already have a pre and want a upgrade.

    Agree with Rob.

I would like a WebOS phone to try as well, and may be tempted to put down £100 to try (with the risk that this is a massive fail), but £400 is too much. Shame.

I have had a WebOS phone for over a year now and it is fantastic operating system, very slick to use and true multi tasking. The Pre2 with V2.0 can only make it better. But yes £400 is a bit much someone have to subsidise it to make it more attractive.

hrm now i've got to think, i'm looking for a new handset atm, and am on o2 with no plans to change, been waiting for news of the pre 2.

at £399 quid the obvious comparisons are the Iphone, and android tablets, the samsung galaxy for example, both of which have a hell of a lot more apps available…..

anyhow maybe i'll go for a mid range blackberry – or just go the other way and get a samsung solid, or i i can find one a Jcb phone
