LoveFilm just arrived on the PS3. From today you’ll be able to stream over 2,000 films from LoveFilm straight to your PS3. To use the service you’ll need to have a LoveFilm account. If you’ve got a LoveFilm unlimited package you are granted unlimited streaming accordingly. If you’re on a light use LoveFilm account you’ll have a certain allocation of hours you can watch on your PS3, but if you’re on a £3.99-£5.99 package you’ll need to upgrade.

      Not really.

I signed up for the free trial yesterday and I'm a little disappointed. Setting it up was a hassel, it kept telling me that I'd deactivated my PS3 online even though I'd never tampered with my account. It then began working. However the PS3 app seems buggy, it hangs a lot with the progress circle spinning around, pressing the PS button on your controller doesn't take you back to the console control bar so you can't quite it instead you have to switch off your console. The choice of films is very old, I'm sure this will improve over time but I couldn't find any desent films that were younger than 2007. The quality is also quite bad, they almost look like illaegal rips of DVDs you get bugged to buy from street vendors. Then theres the pausing, this may be my PS3, I've got an 8Mb link and receive just over 7Mb/s as we're only 100 meters from the exchange, but the films pause every few seconds despite my PS3 being only 10 feet away from the router with a clear line of sight for the wifi reception.

Overall I'm a little disappointed, I won't be keeping my account open passed the 14 free days.

I've yet to tets it myself but as a longtime Lovefilm subscriber, the streaming as part of a package options right now are very limited. You'll get through the must see titles quickly. It's a shame Lovefilm can't deliver the Pay Per View options to PS3/supported TVs as it does in the browser on the desktop.

ill second everything youv posted, i have a 6mbs connection and the routers 5 meters awayfrom the ps3 but it still pauses every few seconds so theres no point using the service. hope it improves

Very limited Service. No decent films and if you plan on watching a film on a friday or Saturday night DONT BOTHER!. Very slow and lagging

Have subscribed about a month ago to £9.99 per month. I run a Virgin Media 20Mb connection and frequently receive live connections speeds of 13-15Mb – more than enough for a decent stream. Via a laptop the streaming is perfect but via the PS3 it's atrocious. Here's why:

    - Freezing! Same as Greg's comments but I find it way more frequent. It started off fine – for the first few movies, then a while later (ciouple of weeks in) it got stupid. The movie would take 4-5minutes to start then it would pause every 1-2 minutes for about 10seconds. RUBBISH.

    - Navigating the movie – this is infuriating. Press 'X' to pause the movie then 'X' again to start it. Thats fine but don't put the controller down because you may press R2 or L2 and then it'll start rewinging or fast forwarding. You can't cancel this! It just keeps on going! You have to rewind or ff back to where the yellow bar is and try and hit 'Play' again at JUST the right position

    - Menu system – is shocking. So slow, glitchy, logs you out, search is slow, etc etc. Also, the rotation of new movies is appaling. This needs to be upgraded asap.

    - Quality of movies is pretty bad – not unwatchable – but moreso designed for Laptops and small screens. I have a 50″ in the living room and it just looks shocking – really blurry (i.e. text from the Credits is hard to read)

    - Also, takes ages to load the bloody thing! I'm not entirely sure what's actually happening at this point – if it's just logging me into the account then why take so long?

    - Viewing your Physical rentals – not intuative – not easy and yet again slow.

I love this service as it's cheaper than Virgin Movies on demand (hence the reason for me trying it) so will stick it out for a couple more months but if it doesn't improve I'm gone!

One word – awful. Quality of streamed movies is poor as is the chioce. Menu structure is poorly designed and non-intuitive particularly with its’ pretentious ‘collections’ option. As well as the poor quality, streaming movies are made unwatchable owing to the ridiculously long waits and constant freezing. Useless doesn’t even begin to describe the service for the PS3 – they seriously need to take it down and sort out the numerous issues before even considering launching anything like it again.
