Lots of the reports don’t seem to be to do with the hardware folks are running, and it looks like the problem might be with some sort of Call of Duty: Black Ops memory leak.
David Vonderhaar from Treyarch told Kotaku that he’s not sure what’s going on, and Treyarch support is trying to find out what’s happening.
He said: “I’m not totally sure what is going on yet… I know that Customer Support has been collecting information and trying to sort out the legit reports from the many people who don’t meet the system requirements by collecting dxdiags and the like. I know that the PC server browser was crushing the back-end. At first, queries were restricted and some caching was added to offset the high-load. This should be much better now, if not fixed outright.”

Im rocking a Phenom II Hex (4Ghz) 4GB ddr3 1600 7/8/7/24, xfx 5770, and am getting 90FPS+ maxed without vsinc on, But still get small lag spikes and not 100% smooth play online, even tho my connection is good, And my CPU is only using about 50% XD

Before you comment people, make sure you understand the difference between LAG and bad specs. One guy here said “I had to run it at 800×600 just to get a half decent gameplay”
Lag doesnt care about your resolution, or your specs and vice versa. You could be running at 1920×1680 at 450fps, and you will still get lag.
I myself have a top gaming rig, game runs great (graphics are seriously downgraded from its predecessor.. which was really dissapointing) and I get the same lag as the video..
Random spurts of immense packets being sent from my PC to the server.. put a sniffer on it and check the raw packets… its retarded compared to most online games.

Wow, thank goodness it isn't just me. I can't seem to play at all now. The first day it came out I was playing online and it just got worse by the hour (lag) Even in the menu it lags…I have 4 gigs of ram and dual SLI 512 video cards…why am I laggin? Don't think its on my end. I am very disappointed. I cant even play single player for the same reason. I hope they do something to fix this or i'll be mailing my copy to Treyarch and demanding my money back.

One more thing. I keep getting a Downloading Game Settings screen when I try joining a server. So now I can't even get into any games. The hinky thing is that it does it no matter what now even if I hit escape it vanishes for a few secs then pops back up, whether trying to join a game or just sitting on the main screen…bollocks…

Strange, I have same prob on 1 computer. At multiplayer i have a lag problem, but i have ping < 40ms!.. how can this be? (fiber internet @ 50Mbit/s up and down) 3850 ATI an Q8200 @ 2333 Mhz 6GB PC2-6400. On my other PC (i7 + 9800GTX 4GB DRR3 (cable @ 60Mbit down 6Mbit up) I dont experience a problem at all!..
so Ping = low, lag = high. Not a hardware problem if i read all reactions posted above.. Software for my 2 pc's is the same thanx to steam… so wtf is going on

Problems i have experienced: Lag of course.. Melee sucks balls and only works half the time, bullets dont hit where they are suppose to quite often, or more annoying, i die by a player who isnt even locked on2 me.. i find this problem happens more with handguns , I recently purchased the gun ship and its not working?? i have it equipped, i got 12-0 and 14-0 the 2 matches after purchasing it and it still refuses to allow me to use it!?!<— if anyone can tell me something i dont know please do, like if my chopper kills dont count towards my next killstreak? idk ….Graphics are simular to the Beta version of cod for ps2 .. I do however like the points system, being able to bet other players and some other options for multiplayer… If Infinity ward made this game with Triarch's ideas.. we would be singing a different tune.. unfortunatly … thats not the case.. FAIL

Hello guy i playing call of duty: black op on my pc i seem to be so lag and hard to shoot people. at the first time i thought that might be my hardware component but after i try and try to config my setting from time to time i seem to be more like the game problem then the pc. so any idea to fix this think up. i hope the solution will release soon cos so hard to play game seen the start.

lags both in single and multiplayer… the strange thing is it doesn't lag if i stand still while I am in game, I can aim shoot without any problem… as soon as I press W,A,S,D the game has some awful lag…. unplayable

I played the single player through in two sittings at 1920×1200 with no lag or crashes. In fact it ran perfectly. I did get some lag in the multiplayer, and I couldnt pin it down to anything in particular happening at the time. It seemed to randomly occur. Q6600, 4870 x2 2gb, 6gb ram, Win7 x64

I have i7 720 Q,6 gigs of RAM and 5850 ATI RADEON, I'm more than capable to run this game. I tried minimzing the reqs. I turned off the anti analysing and put texture on low and it lags big time. Fucking dissappointed.

Funny thing is if you crack the game and apply skidrow's patch it runs a heck of a lot better, but if you got it legit you're pretty screwed for now. As it happens it was unplayable even on the lowest possible settings on my 2.7GB duel core, 4GB RAM and GeForce 8800GT until I got the update and crack; after applying the illegal patch and crack I can play it on Extra for textures, I just played with the texture filtering and such to get it to run as best I could and it plays quite nicely now. Even so the devs should be ashamed of how it performs and they should NOT have released it until they'd resolved the problems. Somehow I think that releasing it so soon has been one of those corporate decisions they didn't have much choice about – sickens me really. If they just allowed the devs to spend long enough to perfect stuff they'd prolly get a better reputation and make more money in the long run – the economic downturn is a good example of this kind of short-sightedness.

I've got COD Black Ops and I also have problem with Lag and/or FPS drops in single and multiplayer. However, in single player the issue is not that big. I sometimes got a small “hickup” / lag, but after this it runs smoothly.
In Multi Player the problem is bigger. FPS are max 50 and sometimes even drop to 20. The average FPS is mostly 42.
I'm waiting for a fix, because now I'm playing the game without shadows and other settings are decreased. I would like to play it like it was ment to be (my system can handle it).

So I’ve figured what the problems was with my Call of Duty Black Ops MP graphics stuttering.
Before and after the patch I was still experiencing what seemed to be mix of lag and stuttering performance problems. I’ve tried the a variety of supposed tweaks from .cfg edits of multi-thread, multi-gpu etc…but none have made a difference.
I’ve tried setting my primary(GTX480) to handle Physx(in the nvidia control panel and had GTS250 neutral) AND reverting back to the 2nd gpu(GTS250) as physx and still no luck.
So, just a few minutes ago I decided to remove my GTX 480 for power saving reasons and moved up the GTS250 as the primary video adapter. Fired up COD Black Ops(exact same ingame graphical settings) and played on the same server and to my surprise I was having no stuttering/lag effect issues. At first I was afraid there maybe something wrong with the gtx480 so I installed it(did not install the GTS250 as 2nd gpu) and even that everything was fine. Decided to install the GTS250, started up the game and the problems came back. I even swapped the cards around making the GTS250 as primary and 480 as second gpu and same stuttering problems again. So thru this observation can I confirm atleast with my system that running multiple gpus caused my system to render unfavorable gaming experience even after the patch installed thru Steam. I’m no expert but I hope this helps with anyone else to troubleshoot with their systems with multi-gpus.

well… cg_drawlagometer is set to 1… every 2-3 seconds a latency spike. My rig as follows… asus P6T deluxe mboard/ i7 940, ssd patriot, raptor 300 gb @ 10,000rpm, Ati Radeon HD4870 x 2… should play this game phenominally. but no… 90 fps… at spikes 200 when looking at a wall or to the sky. cod4 mw ran beautifully at a solid 500 fps. dominated every match/scrim. this game how ever… i look into processes in task manager and it shows that the amount of memory it takes grows by about 10kb per 2/3 seconds like they said a memory leak. im not certain but i do hope a few things are patched like that, being able to stop the refresh on the server browser, and being able to modify the config on a dedicated ranked server so i can get rid of the rediculous respawn delay of 15 seconds… and be able to turn on killcams on hardcore matches
thats my 2 cents on the matter… still love the game tho…

I agee, l have the same issues, game hangs every now and again, of course can be a benefit, l shoot them before they shoot me, did wonder if there was an issue on PC versions, checked my internet, my PC, all fine, the benchmark.. try the earlier version of this game before this one came out, it fly's.. come on guys sort it out before we all jump ship and go to your competition, after getting our money back…

All Temps everything ok, running BO @ 1600×900 4xAA , vsync off, all extra and max. Im getting lagg aswell, it's playable but you won't get much kills. Sometimes it's smooth, but rarely, for like 1 sec. No smooth gameplay, lagg spikes, game crashes… BAD, already a month from release and still no fix, what a lasy bastards!

Yep. Black ops is barely playable. This lag is so irritating! Because you can run around finding people fine then the second you actually get to any kind of combat it just stops and starts. I am very dissapointed with this. I had to whack the game down to 0 settings and turn off anything nice just to get it playable. What's even more annoying about the game is how they have removed the wager matches from pc version! I don't want to play shitty one in the chamber. The other ones are much better. The game itself is ok but the performance is so piss poor it really is a waste of 40£. A step back from MW2 lag. Maybe if they stopped match recording EVERY single match it would be a bit better…

I get the same issue, just general stuttering and then baaam! im dead!, also it likes to lag and stutter when you run into an enemy, its very annoying and doesn't make the game enjoyable, i hope they fix it soon .

Using 50mb broadband, 64bit Vista, intel core 2 duo e8400 @ 3.9ghz, 8gb Ram, 2 asus 6850 in crossfire. All other games run like a dream on max settings. Black ops is broken!!!!!!!!

Ive a new xbox, and have full connection on my wireless and i still experience the same problem as you guys on the PC. playing on hardcore, putting full clips into people with no effect… for them to then turn 180, and end you with a single shot is enough to make me go through 2 controllers in a pointless rage!! the online play is such a good concept ,but inevitably fails and leaves you feeling cheated!!

well im running an awesome custom built pc. i run Single player 120 fps average, but when i go onto multiplayer, then theres like what 45 fps max? and it looks shittier than the single player, and more so if you play on the highest settings it tends to lag less?? clearly treyarch was sucking cock when making this game. never want to see another game from them. Whenever i try and join my son on a zombies, i get serious lag, so bad that i cant play, yet whenever i host the game i get perfect service and he will get only 1 bar and he gets lag..Mine router gives me on average 15-20mbps and his is the same, it also happens to me when i join an open game although not as bad…..
