A Toshiba Regza Android phone? Yup, you better believe it: the brand name may be better associated with the Japanese gadget giant’s TV line, but it’s badging up a massive Google mobile with the moniker too. What’s this smartphone packing? Read on and find out.
Akihabara News got close up with this new Toshiba Regza phone, which packs a huge 12 megapixel sensor, a 4-inch screen, TV tuner, and a stand for watching in landscape. The site also reports that the Toshiba Regza Android phone is waterproof. Unfortunately, it’s only running the older Android 2.1, though a Froyo 2.2. update is promised for Spring next year, and the phone itself will go on sale in Japan in December or January.
Interestingly, this is the first Android phone (Rather than laptop or tablet) that we’ve seen from Toshiba, as its mobile division has previously stuck to clunky Windows Mobile. Unfortunately, Toshiba UK has confirmed that this will be “for the Japanese market only”. Anyone going to Tokyo anytime soon?
