Last week we reported that the Toshiba Folio 100 didn’t actually come pre-loaded with Flash 10.1 support as had been advertised (although this information was apparently marked on the box), and now Electricpig has found out that the Toshiba Folio 100 Flash plugin download that’s been provided as a stop gap isn’t even available yet.
Graeme Simons, Toshiba Business Manager for Northern Europe, said: “The plan is that the Flash 10.1 plugin will be available by 10th November latest – that’s this Wednesday.” Use of the word “plan” and the back story here leaves us reluctant to take this as a definite Wednesday launch for the Toshiba Folio 100 Flash plugin though.
Flash isn’t in the device because Toshiba “didn’t want to delay the initial product, and wanted to get it out in time for Christmas”. It seems the result of pushing the device out early and incomplete is a neat bunch of disgruntled customers who’re wishing they’d waited, or bought something else instead. John said: “Toshiba has got 1 week to release Flash otherwise mine is going back to the shop. If I wanted the internet without Flash I would have bought a iPad!”, and one commenter said they’d taken theirs back for a refund already.
Toshiba says “if any customers are asking about the Flash update then they can register to receive an update on when it becomes available using the link to the right of this page”.
Has Toshiba shot itself in the foot? Are you one of the unhappy customers? Drop us a line in the comments and tell us what you think about Tosh’s Flash fail…
