We knew a HTC Legend Froyo update was in the pipeline, upgrading that beautiful metal Android phone from version 2.1 to 2.2 of Google’s operating system, but it looks like the wait is nearly over. HTC has just confirmed that the upgrade will be out in just a matter of weeks – read on for the skinny.
On its official Facebook page, HTC has confirmed that the HTC Legend Froyo update “has been progressing quite well, and in the coming weeks those with unbranded Legends should be receiving the update”.
That’s great news for owners of the HTC Legend, which we still rate as the most beautiful phone ever made, and who have been eying HTC Desire owners with a Froyo update with envy for months. The upgrade should bring new features including Flash video streaming, WiFi mobile hotspot support and the option to run the latest apps, though it’s not clear whether HTC’s latest Sense offerings on the HTC Desire HD and HTC Desire Z, such as remote tracking of the phone, will make the cut. We’ve contacted HTC for confirmation.
Unfortunately, the HTC Legend Froyo update for people who bought directly through a network may take a while longer: HTC says the “software must then go through the appropriate approval process at each carrier that supports Legend on their network.” And given the bungled roll out of Froyo on the HTC Desire on UK networks, that could take a while.
