Apple has opened the doors to the Mac App Store for developers to start submitting their apps for review. Steve Jobs said during the Mac OS X Lion/Macbook Air announcement that the Mac App Store would open within 90 days and developers would be able to stick in apps in November. So there you are! The Mac App Store shelves are now filling up. All we want to know is: when will we get our hands on them?

I'm usually one to praise Apple, after all I own a wealth of their kit (MacBook Pro, iPad, iPhone 4, Apple TV, Airport Express) but the more I think about it the more I've come to realise that my Mac simply doesn't need an 'App Store'! It feels like Apple is simply out to control what I put on my computer and how I use it. The web after all is full of free, easy to use and useful software for the Mac!
