Steve Jobs believes your iPhone has a soul and what’s more you can feel it. Electricpig sat down with Frog Design CMO, Tim Lebrecht, yesterday to chat about all things design and he told us a fantastic anecdote about the podfather’s attention to detail. Hop through to read it…
Lebrecht recounted a tale about Steve Jobs told to him by Frog Design founder Hartmut Esslinger who created the Snow White design language used by Apple from 1984 to 1990 on products including the original Mac.
Even in those days, Steve Jobs took an uncompromising attitude to creating products. He demanded that the inside of the electronics be as beautiful as the outside. That’s a belief that’s been pretty widely discussed but the detail we liked is why Steve Jobs demands that internal beauty…he believes gadgets have soul.
Steve Jobs told Esslinger that the internal design of the products should be beautiful because a consumer can “feel its soul when they hold it in their hands.” What do you expect from a famous Buddhist/Bob Dylan fan/child of the 60s?
Tell us: do you feel like your iPhone 4 has a soul? Does the new Macbook Air even have space for one?
