Fed up of waiting for your HTC Hero Android 2.1 update to arrive? Fancy a complete change of operating system instead? You might just be in luck: a group of Android hackers have set out to get Palm’s delightful webOS operating system up and running on the now aging Google smartphone.
The XDA Developers forum is packed with clever Android fans who spend countless hours crafting hacks and ROMs for our enjoyment, but instead of a plain old Froyo port for the HTC Hero, something completely different is in the works: a webOS port.
Forum member mrinehart93 has kickstarted a thread on porting Palm’s smartphone operating system, which has a heavy emphasis on multitasking and account syncing, to the HTC Hero, and it’s been met with a good response (13 pages of posts at the time of writing), including volunteers enlisting.
Is it possible? If anyone can figure out a way to turn a HTC Hero into a Palm phone, it’s the folks who brought you a way to run Android 2.2 on a Windows Mobile HTC HD2, so stay tuned.
