The Google Nexus Two rumours swirling around are starting to coalesce, and what we’re seeing in the mist is more than a little exciting. The latest report pegs it as a smartphone with the power of the storming Samsung Galaxy S handset, complete with the very latest version of Android, Gingerbread.
We’ve heard the Google Nexus Two will be sold exclusively at Carphone Warehouse, and we’ve heard that Samsung will be making it. Now Gizmodo reports that a trusted source has had the chance to play with the Google Nexus Two, and confirm a few things.
First up, this Google branded smartphone is very similar in build to the Samsung Galaxy S (No bad thing, considering we loved its vibrant 4-inch touchscreen), but with curves that make it seem slightly thinner, and a front facing camera. The difference is that it’s running a stock version of Android, presumably the next version Google is working, codenamed Gingerbread.
If true, that’s fantastic news. The power and screen of the Samsung Galaxy S are unparalleled right now, but it runs a slightly out of date version of Android (2.1, rather than 2.2), with a custom skin that’s not everyone’s cup of tea. Not much is known about the new features of Gingerbread, but a Google Nexus Two with all that power, guaranteed to be first to get the latest updates straight from the search giant, would be a very tempting option indeed.
Samsung is holding a press conference in New York on 8 November. Will we see the Google Nexus Two then? Fingers crossed!
