The white iPhone 4 has been delayed again, for the third time. Dates for production of the white iPhone 4 were missed for July, then until the end of the year, and now the white iPhone 4 will be absent at least until early 2012. An Apple spokesperson had very little to say on the matter, and simply said: “We’re sorry to disappoint customers.”

The accepted reason (although unconfirmed by Apple) for the white iPhone 4 manufacturing problem is that Apple are unable to match the home button and front screen white colour, but you’d be forgiven for thinking that Apple was trying to source the white colour from the horns of a unicorn.Apple hasn’t quite given up on the white iPhone 4 yet though, as images of the white iPhone 4 still exist online.

Correct me if I'm missing something here. This phone has been delayed due to the fact they cannot get enough white plastic to cover the phone? WTF?!

Reportedly there's only one factory that can make the white (technically) glass panel they want, and it's not got the scale to do it quickly. You'd think a company as meticulous as Apple would have seen this coming though and not announced the damn thing. My guess is they're building stock of it so they don't immediately sell out on launch.

Still seems very iffy to me. Possibly a marketing ploy to hype up another iPhone which is slightly different.

Bet there is people holding off thinking the white one will become a unique fashion symbol or something. And look at this people are talking about it so it's working.

I don't think Apple would ever willingly try a marketing stunt which would risk customers being disappointed. Apple gets talk anyway – I wouldn't be surprised if heads were rolling somewhere in the company over this.
