Asus has reportedly been buying up huge amounts of Nvidia Tegra 2 chips – and they’ll supposedly be making their way into the firm’s forthcoming Eee Pad EP90 tablet PC, due for launch in the first few months of next year.

Asus has reportedly snapped up between 200,000 and 300,000 of the powerful processors, and the rumour mill reckons these are headed to the Asus Eee Pad EP90, an 8.9-inch tablet running Windows 7 Embedded and coming in 8GB, 16GB and 32GB varieties. A March 2011 launch is on the cards.

It’s reportedly going to have around 4.5 hours of battery life – that’s quite a bit less than the 15 hours claimed by the makers of Tegra-based Notion Ink Adam earlier this week.

The Tegra 2 chips will also be making their way into Asus smartphones (for 3D gaming purposes) and full HD media players, say reports. We’ll keep you posted on developments.
