Amazon claims Kindle eBooks are trouncing traditional print books on the sales front, at least where the bestseller lists are concerned. The online retail giant says that, over the past 30 days, Kindle eBooks have outsold print books (both hardback and paperback) by a ratio of 2 to 1 on its top 10, 25, 100 and 1,000 lists.

Amazon declined to compare sales figures of non-bestselling print books to their Kindle eBook versions. That suggests that outside of the more popular titles, traditional paper still rules. However, we already know that Kindle eBook sales have surpassed hardback sales – Amazon revealed that back in July. That’s not to say sales of physical books are dropping, mind you – Amazon says they are still on the rise, but just not as swiftly as Kindle titles.

Amazon senior vice president Steve Kessel also revealed that the Kindle eReader itself is shifting some units – without actually spilling any specific sales figure beans. Kessle crowed, “It’s still October and [during the first 24 days of the month] we’ve already sold more Kindle devices since launch than we did during the entire fourth quarter of last year – astonishing because the fourth quarter is the busiest time of the year on Amazon.”
