We’re all waiting for Android Gingerbread 3.0 with bated breath. Back at Google I/O in July, we got news that Android Gingerbread 3.0 will be arriving this year and since then it’s been detailed as the Google tablet OS. Now, we’ve got a list of Android Gingerbread 3.0 features…

The Android-obssessed folk at Phandroid managed to get their hands on a list of Android Gingerbread 3.0 features and what it claims is a shot of the OS in action. The picture is so blurry that it may as well have been drawn with pastels but the lists of Android Gingerbread 3.0 features looks pretty tasty.

We’re told Android Gingerbread 3.0 will feature a reworked notification bar, new icons, improved scrolling and Android green accents throughout the OS. There’s also set to be major changes to the Google apps bundled with Android too. We’re already seen signs of that with the Gmail Android app overhaul.

Two major new functions are also due to be added to Android Gingerbread 3.0. The most important is video chat. With FaceTime and a growing selection of video chat apps for the iPhone 4, Google needs to respond. The report says Android Gingerbread 3.0 will put video chat at the heart of the OS to fight FaceTime head on.

The second piece of big news is adding VoIP skills to Google Voice, a move that’s bound to bother Skype. If Google can persuade carriers to integrate VoIP calling into Android and those Android tablets we’re waiting for, it’ll be a massive deal. But that’s if it can persuade the carriers not to cripple it.
