You might’ve seen novelty USB aquariums before, but that’s not the deal here. These aren’t plastic inhabitants. You’re looking at a fully-functioning water-filled fish house, all powered via a PC, Mac, games console or other handy power-supplying gadget.

Inside there’s a filter, an LED lamp and a pump to re-circulate the water. There’s also a pen holder and alarm clock, presumably so the fish aren’t late for work.

Still not satisfied? The USB aquarium also pumps out “nature sounds” and yes, that “desktop caddy” attachment is big enough to hold an iPhone.

The LCD display shows the time, date and temperature of the tank, and multi-coloured lights on the inside of the USB aquarium give your fish a desktop disco.

Apparently, the tank’s designed for one goldfish, or a couple of smaller sea creatures, in 1.4 litres of water.

The only oversight we can see is that there’s no way to plug other USB accessories into the USB aquarium. Add a few extra ports, and its makers would’ve had the ultimate USB had-dock.

Being a fishkeeper and knowing a fair bit about the hobby this is one of the most abhorrent things I have seen. The trend for nano fish tanks is bad enough but this is nothing more than a cruel sick gimmick. It would be impossible to keep any kind of fish in this 'tank' in fact you would even struggle to keep healthy shrimp in these.

Shame on Electricpig for promoting it.
