HTC has announced five Windows Phone 7 devices, three of which are launched today. These are the HTC 7 Mozart, the HTC 7 Trophy, and the HTC HD7. The fourth device, the HTC 7 Pro, will be arriving before Christmas, and features a flip out QWERTY keyboard. The HTC 7 Surround is an exclusive smartphone for North America, and has a slide out speaker. Yep, slide out speaker. And we won’t get near it here in the UK.

Of the three HTC 7 Windows Phone 7 launch phones for the UK, O2 will have an exclusive on the HTC HD7, the Windows Phone 7 equivalent to the HTC Desire HD, with a 4.3” screen. Vodafone will have the exclusive on the HTC 7 Trophy, and T-Mobile and Orange will be the only two operators stocking the HTC 7 Mozart.

Sadly none of the Windows Phone 7 devices that HTC is launching will be available SIM free. The HTC HD7 is exclusive to O2, the HTC 7 Mozart is exclusive to T-Mobile and Orange, and the HTC Trophy is exclusive to Vodafone. The HTC 7 Pro is the only Windows Phone 7 device that Three will have will be available “by the close of the calendar year”, and will be available on all networks. Looks like Three has been left out in the cold again…

even though I like the line-up and choice of different devices, I fear this might hurt the sales of WinMo7 devices due to the confusion it creates amongst less up-to-date users.

Also, no WinMo7 is available SIM-free? They really don't want to sell these babies in big numbers, do they?!

HTC always sells its phone SIM-free sooner or later, so I'd expect Expansys and the like to have them up for sale shortly.
