Pre-ordered the HTC Desire HD? Do you want the good news or the bad news first? The good news is that the emails some pre-order customers have received from Vodafone telling them that the HTC Desire HD is out of stock has been sent due to a glitch in the system. We’ve been on the blower to Vodafone, who explained what’s happened…
Some HTC Desire HD pre-order customers received a message over the weekend stating that “Unfortunately we have suffered a surprisingly high demand for the HTC Desire HD, which means that it’s unexpectedly out of stock. Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused. We hope to have further stock available within 7-10 working days, and will contact you again once your order has been dispatched.”
Vodafone said that because of changes made on its system, this message was sent out in error, which is default for a back-order, rather than pre-order. A spokesperson said: “Sometimes our system spews out an automated message, due to a glitch in our system. A change in date has caused this, and customers should ignore the message.”
Vodafone said it has not “sold-out” of HTC Desire HD stock because it has not received any yet, and the first batch of devices Vodafone is receiving will be enough to cover all HTC Desire HD pre-order customers. That’s the good news. But now for the bad news, the “change in date”…
The bad news is that while the HTC Desire HD hasn’t sold out, there is a shipping delay on the first allocation of the HTC Desire HD, which means that customers who have pre-ordered with Vodafone will be receiving their devices on 22 October, rather than the 14 October date first promised.
Vodafone said it suspected that the glitch in the system that sent out the HTC Desire HD out of stock email was caused by the fact that the shipping dates changed on Friday, which caused the out of stock emails to be sent to some customers. Vodafone assured us though, that customers who have pre-ordered with Vodafone “will be the first to get the HTC Desire HD”.
