Nintendo Wii now in red: photos

We love a new shade of Nintendo Wii, and if you’re lucky enough to live in the Land of the Rising Sun, you’ll soon have one more option to go with Vader black and rubbish white: a Mario red version to celebrate 25 years of the plucky plumber being super. Read on for the photos.

Starting 11 November, those in Japan will be able to pick up a Nintendo Wii in red to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. It’ll sell for ¥20,000 (£150) – cheaper than the Nintendo 3DS – and comes with a red Wii Remote Plus with the MotionPlus add on built in. Oh, and it’s preloaded with a special version of Super Mario Bros, where the coin blocks say 25 on them.

The 25 best special edition consoles ever!

We love a good special edition console, even if they do feel like cheap cash ins, so it’s a shame this looks likely to be a Japan only offer. Of course, it doesn’t solve the more worrying problem of the best Wii games only being Mario games, but just enjoy staring at it parked under your TV while developers wrestle with that one, we reckon.
