Only just over half of Microsoft employees have confidence in Steve Ballmer’s performance as CEO, according to a Glassdoor.com survey. While Ballmer has always had his naysayers after taking over from golden boy Bill Gates, now it seems a chunk of these people might be his own employees.

Only 51 per cent of employees questioned, out of a total of 1,000, said that they approve of Steve Ballmer’s performance as CEO. In contrast, Microsoft ranked 51 in the list of best companies to work for in Fortune’s list of the best companies to work for, and scored 3.5 out of 5 in employee satisfaction polls, only a little behind Apple and Google. So the staff are happy with Microsoft, but not with Ballmer.

Ballmer has had a bad year and as a result his bonus will be doubling his $670,000 salary, rather than tripling it, which is what he could have won. Not bad for a poor year though, to say the least. The filing that went along with the bonus payout to Ballmer said that part of the reason was for failing to pursue “innovations to take advantage of new form factors”, which translates to bringing out some decent iPad competition. That’s of course, on top of the supreme embarassment of the Kin, which utterly tanked and was pulled, after laughable sales.

What do you think about Steve Ballmer? Is he the right man for the job or does he just shout the loudest?

He shouldn't appear in public. I'm sure he must be fairly good at his job in general to have got this far, but every time he opens his mouth during any public appearance he says something ridiculous.
