When the DeLorean originally went Back To The Future, electric cars were truly futuristic but now they’re a reality. The team at Wired Italy have got hold of Doc Brown’s favourite motor and team up an Italian car customisation company to stick batteries beside the Flux Capacitor…

Wired Italy features editor Massimiliano Ferramondo says the electric DeLorean will be finished in the next two weeks. It was created by installing custom-moulded Lithium-ion batteries into the DeLorean to power a 90kW electric engine.

The team behind the Back To The Future-style electric DeLorean hasn’t revealed just how much juice they’ll be able to get out of the batteries but Ferramondo is due to drive from Milan to Rome this month. He says the car should have a range of between 125 and 135 miles so he’ll need to stop at least once as it’s a 245 mile jag from Milan to Rome.

You can catch up on the progress of the electric DeLorean on the Wired Italy site (you might want to run it through Google Translate). Now we’re just waiting for the Back To The Future trainers to get made and the damn hoverboard to make it off the drawing board.
