The Sony Google TV is set to be unveiled on October 12 but the Sony Google TV remote has already broken cover during a special of ABC Nightline in the US. Engadget had its finger hovering over the big red screencap button and grabbed the picture above. Read on for what features we can make out and tell us what you think of all those buttons…

The Sony Google TV remote packs in what looks like two directional pads for navigation, a full QWERTY keyboard, volume control, channel selection and pause/play buttons. Essentially all the controls you need to surf the web and feast on video at the same time is packed in there but we can’t help but think there’s a slight lack of elegance.

Let us know what you make of the Sony Google TV remote. Would you prefer something slimmer like the Boxee keyboard remote or does the Sony Google TV remote appeal to your desire to be emperor of the sofa?

This looks ridiculous. Like something from the future bit of Back to the Future. I can't believe this is real. I understand the need for the QWERTY keypad, but in such a clunky device? Really? Sony usually do better on design than this. Can't they have built some sort of touchscreen controller?
