Surprise surprise, the Next Android tablet that was outed last week is rubbish. The source of the absolute failure of the Next Android tablet appears to be in the curious choice to give it a resistive touchscreen, which means you need to apply pressure to the screen for it to register your movement. This, unsurprisingly, causes problems when trying to swipe. Swiping is hard when you’ve also got to make something click at the same time. Take a look below, and see how the Beeb’s Rory Cellan-Jones got on (or didn’t) with the Next tablet…

The Next tablet highlights the problems that can arise from the lack of control Android has over the devices that can run its Android OS. Your average consumer does not separate their opinions of the device hardware they are using from the OS a device is running on, meaning this could detract from Android’s reputation in the mind’s of those who use this tablet.

Google itself has said that tablets should not be running Froyo, and this device doesn’t even have that, being stuck with 2.1. “But it’s only £180!” I hear you cry. To which we issue a warning to bargain seekers: this is not a bargain. Bad gadgets are a false economy. Just say no.

We’re not going to ask if you’re tempted, because it would be depressing to hear from any of you who are.

It's a resistive screen; why doesn't he use his nail or a stylus?! You shouldn't treat a resistive screen the same as a capacitivescreen. This video tells us nothing.

Exactly Zaman. I currently use a resistive screen, and if you know how to use them they're great. I was actually thinking about buying this as a portable graphics tablet, but I don't know if Android has any good paint/design apps :(

He did not even try to give this a fair reiew.
This is a good budget device and he expects IPAD performance from it(not going to happen).
I have the Elonex version of this tablet and I did not have any problems using the resistive touch screen.
