Google Goggles, the image recognition black magic that’s been available for Android users for a good while has finally hit the Google iPhone app. Google promised Google Googles for iPhone was coming soon back in August, so we’re glad to see it’s sticking to its pledges! Read on for details on how to get Google Goggles for iPhone…
While Google Goggles is a separate app on Android, it comes baked into the existing Google Mobile iPhone app. If you’ve already got it, you’ll see a new camera icon in the top bar when you open the app after updating. Tap it and you’ll be taken through some instructions on how to use Google Goggles.
Check out the video above to see Google Goggles on iPhone in action. It doesn’t do faces yet (Google says it can but won’t activate that for privacy reasons) but it’s effective for logos, book covers, landmarks and the like. The one downside is if you’re not rocking an iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4 it won’t work. That’s because Google Goggles needs a camera with autofocus.
