We assessed the tech tastes of David Cameron before he became Prime Minister and revealed that he used a Macbook Pro for work and an iMac at home. But now he’s in Number 10, it seems his Apple fanboy tendencies have ramped up a level. In two interviews over the weekend, David Cameron seemed to prefer talking about his iPad that pretty much any other topic. Just like the average Apple fan then…

Talking to The Telegraph, David Cameron was keen to boast about his tech prowess: “I’m very proud of the fact that I’ve got an iMac and I’ve got a speaker remotely linked without a wire, which I did myself. I have all the music on the iMac. The cool thing is that I now control my iMac from the iPad, to play out through the speaker.”

However, David Cameron’s tech skills only go so far. He had to admit that the iPad connection was set up for him: “I had a little bit of help from someone in IT on that.” The interview also offered a glimpse of what you’ll find in the PM’s iTunes purchases: “Mumford & Sons I think is the last thing I bought. Eilen Jewell I’m very into. Emiliana Torrini.”

You can add those acts to the roll call of artists potentially embarrassed by the David Cameron seal of approval. Previous acts included The Smiths and Billy Bragg. Both are represented on his iPod.

Meanwhile, talking to Simon Schama in the FT, David Cameron was on about his iPad again, asking the historian to send his new series (The Power of Art) “in digital form, then I can get it on my iPad”.

To truly attain Apple fanboy status though, the Prime Minister will need to ditch his trusty Blackberry for an iPhone. But with all this talk of austerity, should he really be flaunting a shiny new iPhone 4?

What do you think? Is David Cameron just trying to be trendy or is he really obsessed with his iPad?
