Good news: Vodafone mobile data plans to kill off our old uncertain friend “Unlimited”. From now on customers will know exactly how much data they’ll get rather than being caught out by a fair use limit lurking in the small print. It’s a good move from Vodafone and most of the other networks have done the same. Read on for details on Vodafone’s new data plans…

The simplified Vodafone system now features three monthly plans: 500MB, 750MB and 1GB. If you reach the edge of your data limi within a month, Vodafone will text you to warn you. If you need more date you can buy additional 500MB bundles £5.

The Vodafone plans will only take affect for new customers. If you’ve currently got a Vodafone Unlimited deal it’ll continue. Don’t worry you’re not going to start getting a flurry of texts. Vodafone says the average iPhone user only uses 200MB of data month so most people should be fine anyhow.

Where do you stand on the death of the “unlimited” data plan? Is Vodafone right to ditch the language? Are you the the average iPhone 4 user? Or do you gorge on data? Confess your data shame in the comments now.

The above article is incorrect in stating that this will only affect new customers. I signed up in September 2009 on a 24 month deal with Unlimited Mobile Internet. They informed me that, as of 1st October 2010, the unlimited deal would be changing to a 500 MB limit. As this constituted a significant change to the previously signed contract they had no option but to let me terminate the agreement penalty-free.

      Hi Andy,

That piece was based on Vodafone’s official statement but it’s interesting to hear your experiences. We’ll chase this up and investigate further.

      Cheers,

Stuff all that. Unlimited was just fine. Been on unlimited for ages. I'm in the middle of my sim-only contract and out of the blue I get a text saying that I'm nearing my 500 MB and if I go over I have to pay another 5 pounds. I usually use between 200 and 400 MB (although I have occasionally been well over 500 MB with no extra charge) and I'm currently 5 days into my current month.

I've had no warning of any changes – this post via google is the first I've heard of it – , but if they don't change their mind quick-smart I will be curtailing my contract just like Andy, and leaving Vodafone pronto.

Just so I'm clear, this bit of your article – “f you’ve currently got a Vodafone Unlimited deal it’ll continue. Don’t worry you’re not going to start getting a flurry of texts” – is wrong. At least in my case.
