Samsung has dropped Symbian. The move has been long-rumoured but with Android, Windows Phone 7 and its own bada OS to choose from, the Korean giant has finally let Symbian slip away. With Sony Ericsson jumping ship too, Symbian is starting to look very shaky…
The decision was revealed in an email to Symbian developers. It announces that Samsung is shutting its Symbian forum and will kill all Symbian content by the end of 2010.
Sony Ericsson has also given Symbian the slip in favour of adding Windows Phone 7 to its arsenal. Samsung is still a member of the Symbian Foundation but don’t expect it to be visiting that club again any time soon.
Still, if you want to give Symbian a little love, the Symbian 3-packing Nokia N8 is about to arrive. Let us know: are you sad to see Samsung and Sony Ericsson saying goodbye to Symbian? Or are there just too many other OS options out there to choose from?
