We said a new Apple TV jailbreak was inevitable and we were right! Musclenerd and the crew at the iPhone Dev Team (who brought us the iPhone 4 jailbreak) have flagged up SHAtter, a tool for cracking open the new iPod touch that also enables the first new Apple TV jailbreak. It doesn’t bring apps to the new Apple TV yet but, hell, we’re getting closer…

Shatter is already out there to allow you to tweak your new iPod touch and get access to Cydia, the app store for jailbroken iOS devices, but it’s been kicked onto the new Apple TV too. Hackers got their hands on the new Apple TV firmware and have proved that SHAtter can open it right up.

Right now SHAtter simply tricks the streaming box into revealing the Lowtide UI, the secret new Apple TV software we told you about yesterday, but the new Apple TV jailbreak opens up the scope for throwing apps onto the device. See it in action in the video from Musclenerd below:

Tell us: if you’re grabbing a new Apple TV, will you take a chance and jailbreak it? Or will you be leaving those factory settings well alone? The comments are waiting!
