Forget just sending a link to a YouTube video. YouTube Social a neat companion to YouTube allows you to watch clips at the same time with your friends and chat about what you’re watching. You can pass the virtual remote to choose who’s in control of your viewing. Is this a glimpse at the future of online TV or just a clever novelty?
To share a YouTube video with YouTube Social, you just need to copy the URL onto their site or add social to the end of the link ( replace www.youtube.com with www.youtubesocial.com).
Once you’ve done that you’ll get your very own personal YouTube viewing party. Invite your friends and they can hop in and comment on the clip. To hand over control, you just drag the remote control icon onto the avatar of the friend you want to put in the hot seat.
You can share you YouTube Social viewing party via Facebook Connect or by sending the URL to friends. Hit this link to see ours for the frankly brilliant Baby Monkey Riding A Pig. YouTube Social definitely adds something to watching the flicks on YouTube Movies and and will come in handy with live YouTube TV in the offing.
Let us know what you think of YouTube Social. Is the idea of watching YouTube clips with your friends genius or just a little bit too gimmicky? Hit the comments and let us know and feel free to share your favourite YouTube videos with us.
