An Inception game is in the works. The head-spinning, dream-robbing flick is due for a console tie-in with director Christopher Nolan heavily involved in its development. But don’t expect to start playing with a virtual DiCaprio just yet or get worried about seeing the usual shoddy movie game, Nolan says this is a long term project…

The Dark Knight director spilled the plans for an Inception game to Variety. He says: “One thing we are looking at doing is developing a video game based on the world of the game, which has all kinds of ideas that you can’t fit into a feature film.”

Inception, which features a multi-layered plot about thieves infiltrating dreams, pulled in $750m at the box office so a game looks like a smart bet. The movie’s visuals were mind-blowing so we’d love to see more of the same translated to a game. ??Heavy Rain showed that psychological drama can make gripping gameplay so we have no doubt Nolan could offer up similar thrills with an Inception game. We’d love some similar PlayStation Move integration.

But it’ll be a while before it arrives. Nolan says of the Inception game plans: “[It’s] something we’ve been talking about and are looking at doing long-term, in a couple of years.” In the meantime, he’s directing his third Batman flick (due in 2012).

Which other films from this year would you like to see get a gaming makeover? Scott Pilgrim has already popped up as a side-scrolling beat ‘em up, how about a The Runaways rock band sim with realistic creepy manager AI?
