Sky box freezing? Sky speaks!

Electricpig has confirmed with Sky that the freezing problem that customers were reporting was a problem that affected a number of users, but is fixed for the moment. Sky says that only Sky+ HD boxes were affected by the glitch, and Sky+ boxes should not be affected.

The problem being reported involved a freeze on Sky+ HD boxes, which would occur when using Sky Anytime. A spokesperson for Sky says: “Over the last 48 hours, some Sky+ HD customers have experienced problems when using Sky Anytime. Because of a technical issue, some Sky+ HD boxes would freeze or go into standby while accessing the Sky Anytime menu.

“We’re working to investigate the problem and we believe that we’ve now identified the root cause. This means that no further customers should experience the problem and there is no need to disable Sky Anytime on your Sky+ HD box. However, while our final checks are continuing, we’re taking the precaution of not adding new programmes to Anytime for Sky+ HD customers. This is a purely temporary measure and we hope to be able to reinstate the full service as soon as possible.”

“Although Sky did not state the root cause of the problem, one user believed it to have originated in an update to his Sky+ HD box.

    I had the problem on Sunday it just wasn't with sky any time it was also while watching the live football the only way i could sort the problem was to turn the sky+hd box was to turn it off at the mains…..Iain in Aberdeen

    I phoned sky on Monday as my sky+ box has not switched on properly since Saturday. When it did turn on i would get an errot and it would switch off!! They confirmed there was a system update problem and that it affected sky+ and sky+hd boxes. Was told to phone them back when it comes back on and they will amend my bill for the days I am missing. Keep trying to switch on / reset box but no luck so far…..

    My Sky HD is'nt working properly. Earlier this morning a message said “installation in process” and since then it would not start properly. If I switch it off and restar,t the unit responds for approx 30 sec and if don't select any program in that time, it doesn't let me change anything later. I initially felt the battery in my remote have run out but I could change the volume. Any how it's very frustrating to be stuck to just one channel. Hope it gets sorted tomorrow.     No, my Sky HD + is still playing up. Suspect it started with Anytime. Now nothing is working. Tried may power-off. Set comes back on, but the freezes again.
