The PSP phone is back on the radar! After all that talk about an Android Gingerbread-powered PlayStation blower a couple of months back, a rather intriguing job ad has popped up. Sony’s after Android engineers to work in London. Is it gearing up to make sure its apps for the PSP phone are up to scratch?
The Sony job posting is looking for a senior server engineer to join its Online Technology Group nestled in the salubrious environs of London’s Soho. As well as looking for experience with Android apps, the ad is after someone with experience of handling cloud services and developing software-as-a-service.
All those details and a reference to “knowledge/experience of online gaming” suggests Sony could well be working on a new mobile incarnation of the PlayStation Network to go with the PSP phone. If it is about to punt out a device, having something to compete with Xbox Live integration in Windows Phone 7 and Apple’s Game Center would be vital.
Previous chatter about the PSP Phone suggested it will arrive along with a new games area on the Android Market but surely Sony would like to have its own store front. We’re hoping this job ad points to PSP phone plans stepping up a gear.
Dive into the comments and tell us: would you plump for the PSP phone if it went from mythical to an actual product?
