First-class fliming
To make an impact on your audience you’ll need all the tools of a professional movie maker. Luckily, that’s what the Nokia N8 puts in your pocket. The N8 camcorder is a cut above most mobile cameras, packing in HD shooting, autofocus and the ability to mark breaks in a clip without stopping recording.

Those technical skills, coupled with our N8 video tips and tricks, will have you shooting tip-top footage with just a little bit of practice. Take your time, follow our guides, and produce something worthy of the world’s eyeballs. Now, you’re ready to share it.

Prepare your clip
Your HD video already looks great, but make sure you tick all the correct legal boxes before sharing it. That means avoiding using music from commercial artists, or any video you didn’t shoot yourself.

Make sure your clip is 100% your own work before you use the N8 to upload it, and you’ll avoid it being removed for copyright infringement, putting a serious crimp on your future as an online video sensation!

To make uploading your clip easier, you can rename it too, by tapping in to the N8 applications menu and choosing “Office” then “File mgr”. Use this tool to browse the files stored on your Nokia N8, and look inside the N8’s mass storage and “Video clips” folder to find your recordings.

Once you’ve found the video file to upload, tap and hold it, then choose rename to give it a title.

Track down some Wi-Fi
Shooting HD video on Nokia N8 takes up a fair amount of storage space. That’s fine, since the N8 has plenty of storage built in, but when you’re uploading those beefy files, you’ll want to find the speediest connection possible.

The Nokia N8 Wi-Fi connection is perfect for that. Seek out a hotspot before flinging your files to the web, then watch as those megabytes are flung into the cloud.

If you’re uploading HD clips then you’ll notice they’ll take some time. That’s normal, just make sure your Nokia N8 is fully charged before uploading, as the last thing you’ll want is for the power to cut out just seconds from finishing the process.

YouTube built-in
The Nokia N8 has YouTube already on its Applications menu. Fire it up, tap YouTube and sign in using your existing username and password. Once you’ve logged in, scroll to the bottom of the screen and tap “Upload”.

Next press the “Select file” button and browse through the Nokia N8 memory to find the clip you renamed earlier.

Type a title for your clip into the “Title” box, and hit “Upload” to begin the uploading process. Settle back, and wait for the world to admire your HD handiwork.

Show your friends
Now your video is online, the hard work begins. You shouldn’t rely on YouTube to promote your work, and instead take matters into your own hands. Start the process by showing your work to friends.

You can do that easily by tapping into YouTube and prodding “My Account” at the bottom of the screen. Choose “My Videos” from your own profile page, and view the video you’ve just uploaded. Scroll to the bottom of the page, and you’ll see there’s an option to share it on Facebook.

Tap the share on Facebook button, enter your Facebook login details, add a caption and hit the Post to Profile button, and it’ll be shared for your friends to see in their news feeds.

Show the world!
Now you’ve achieved fame amongst friends, it’s time to show your movie to the world! The best way to to do that is by spreading it across video sharing websites. There are lots on the web, but one of the best is Vimeo.

It’s populated by a community of short film-lovers, and uses high quality encoding that will make your Nokia N8 videos look fantastic, retaining quality and showing off your work with faultless detail.

Point the N8’s web browser to Vimeo.com and log in. Hit the Upload link at the top of the page, but don’t use the regular uploader, instead scroll down and you’ll see some instructions for mobile users. Vimeo encourages mobile video-makers to e-mail their clips, and will assign you a unique e-mail address to process your video. You’ll see it at the bottom of the upload page. Just tap it, and the N8 will create a new e-mail for you. Just attach your video and hit send. As soon as it’s uploaded, it’ll be available for constructive criticism from the Vimeo community.

Hold a premiere in HD
Your clip is available online. You’ve shown your friends, and released it to the movie-loving web community. Now you need to hold a premiere in HD (celebrity guests optional). The Nokia N8 makes this easy too, thanks to the HDMI socket in its side, and the included adapter.

Just hook up the HDMI cable to your high definition TV, and insert the other end into the micro HDMI socket at the top of the Nokia N8.

You’ll see a pop-up menu, letting you select TV output, and within seconds you’ll see pictures on the big screen. Now all you need is to furnish your guests with popcorn, dim the lights, draw the curtains and hit play on your video. The HD quality of the Nokia N8 camera is best seen on the big screen, so get set for an eye-popping start to your movie making career!
