The rumours we heard about the iPhone iOS 4.1 jailbreak a couple of days ago were true. iPhone Dev Team, just hours after the iOS 4.1 update came through, has announced that it’s got a working jailbreak, and this time it looks like it’s here to stay.

The rumour said that there were two vulnerability points for an iOS 4.1 jailbreak, one deeper down in the iPhone than the other, and it’s this latter that’s come through. Hackers said that because the vulnerability is at such a low level in iOS 4.1 that Apple will have a job patching it, and might even have to make hardware changes to put a stop the jailbreak.

The jailbreak was announced on Twitter by iPhone Dev Team member pod2g, but it hasn’t hit the iPhone Dev Team blog yet, as it’s still being tweaked. Another iPhone Dev Team member, @MuscleNerd said: “Crazy timing that @pod2g got latest exploit just as 4.1 went public (lots of work left…keep away from 4.1 for now!)”

For now, until those tweaks have been made to the jailbreak, iPhone Dev Team is advising those with an existing jailbreak to steer clear of the iOS 4.1 update.
