Apple has done a big U-turn on its stance on third party developer tools for iOS apps, and now allows all comers “as long as the resulting apps do not download any code”. And that’s not all: Apple will be opening up some of its decision making process to app developers. This is a big change of policy for Apple, who has been completely opaque to app developers up until now.

Apple will be publishing its mysterious App Store Review Guidelines, giving app developers an insight into the dictatorial workings of what it takes to be passed through the gates and into the Apple App Store.

The release reads that Apple is intending to “relax some restrictions”. Could this be a reaction to the pressure that’s being put on with Android’s rampant growth, or is Apple just listening to its app developer community and making changes accordingly?
