Nikon Coolpix P7000 official photos: The ultimate compact camera?

The Nikon Coolpix P7000 has just been made official, and it’s one seriously specced out compact camera. While Canon’s top end PowerShots have ruled the roost for compacts with manual settings and all the trimmings, this looks set to give them a serious fright. Read on for all the details.

The 10.1 megapixel Nikon Coolpix P7000 comes with a 7.1x optical zoom, and is capable of recording 720p HD video, and there’s a 4-inch LCD screen around the back to view all your snaps, plus a memory card slot with SD/SDHC/SDXC support.

The big news with the Nikon Coolpix P7000 are the bevy of manual settings, readily accessible from a dial on the top, plus RAW support, an optical viewfinder and a hotshoe for accessories.

The eye watering £489.99 price puts the Nikon Coolpix P7000 at the very top end of the compact market (Spend a little bit more and you can get a Sony NEX-3), but all this combined makes for one serious Canon PowerShot G11 rival. Worth it? We’ll find out soon when this bad boy goes on sale.

Out 23 September | £489.99 | Nikon
