Final Fantasy 13 Versus still hasn’t got a release date and doesn’t look like it’ll get one anytime soon. But director Tetsuya Nomura has hit Twitter with a confusing message that suggests the action RPG could be headed to the Xbox 360. Is internal politics at Square Enix playing out on the social network?
After confirming earlier this month that the long-delayed Final Fantasy 13 Versus may not even arrive in 2011, Nomura hinted at plans to bring the game to Xbox 360 in a series of tweets.
The Final Fantasy 13 Versus director said: “Multi-platform is when you start development on a game with the assumption of optimising multiple platforms. Porting is something that’s done after you’ve developed a game specifically for a particular platform. The debate over porting is decided by the management…all I can say right now as a developer is that Versus is being developed specifically for the Playstation 3.”
Nomura’s curiously detailed comments about Final Fantasy 13 Versus come just after rumours of a Japanese release for Final Fantasy 13 on Xbox 360 (which we’ve already got). While he may simply be attempting to head off more whispers about Final Fantasy 13 Versus, his tweets actually imply that Square Enix is discussing an Xbox 360 port.
Still, with no release date for Final Fantasy 13 Versus likely to arrive this year or next, gamers on either platform will have to hold tight anyhow. Final Fantasy 14 will keep us busy in the meantime.
