The Samsung Galaxy Tab UK price tag is still up in the air, so we asked you yesterday how much you’d be willing to pay for the first mainstream Android tablet of note. The verdict: not nearly as much as the pricetags we’ve seen floating around on the internet so far for it. In fact, if it’s to stand a chance against the iPad, it’s going to need to cost substantially less. Read on for the results…

A huge 90 percent of readers said they would buy the Samsung Galaxy Tab so long as it was priced under £400, split between the £200-300 price bracket (54 percent) and £300-400 (36 percent).

Just nine percent of those who voted said they’d be willing to pay as much as £400-500 – the price bracket the low end 16GB Wi-Fi only iPad falls in at. So, Samsung, if you’re about to drop that Samsung Galaxy Tab UK price, you’d better make it worth our while: if it’s going to be smaller than the iPad, it’s got to be cheaper too.

    If it doesn't cost less than an iPad then they might as well not bother.

    There are plenty of people who would happily pay more than the cost of an iPad, but most won't and if they want any kind of real success then they have no choice but to make it pretty cheap.

    It looks like you've made some typos;

    “so long as it was priced under £4000″ => “so long as it was priced under £400″?
    “and £400-400 (36 percent)” => “and £300-400 (36 percent)”?

      Apologies, figures amended. I think it's safe to say it'll be under £4,000! Touch wood…

    Anyone that thinks this is going to be cheaper then a top end smart phone sorry is just plain crazy. It doesn't have to be cheaper then the iPad and by the way it needs to be compared to the 16GB WiFi+3G iPad which costs £529 form Apple.

    The reason it shouldn't even be compared to this is whilst the iPad may have a larger screen it doesn't do voice over 3G or have Cameras or USB or HDMI or have many of the other functions the Galaxy does. Now if the iPad does all you want buy that but if you want more from your Tablet/Slate it is going to of course cost you. Of course everyone would like it as cheap as possible but IMO the prices being suggested are just unrealistic but time will soon show us exactly what it will cost and those that want one can decide.

    I would definitely prefer a Tab without a carrier, but not for that sort of money. I already have a Galaxy S that I am perfectly happy with, but was looking forward to combining it with a Tab for internet and reading books on my kindle app. I guess I should wait….

    I think they made a mistake in only having a 3g model.

    If Galaxy Tab cannot offer an intuitive touch interface equal to or better than that of the iPad, Samsung had better not bother. Anyone who buys it will know that they are getting an inferior product – no matter how many extra features it has. So far none of Apple's competitors have grasped the nettle: the interface. They are being misled by the Apple-hating mob who foam at the mouth when they hear the very mention of Apple. First they said that no-one would need such a device, then they said that they would buy one if Microsoft could rope PC-manufacturers into lashing something up, now they are pinning their hopes on anything that comes along!

    Seriously, this is never going to be cheaper than an unlocked Galaxy S. £500-£550 is fine.

      iPad is cheaper than a new iPhone 4. You never know! But yes, probably.
