Head to the UK Google homepage this morning and you’ll find the usual logo replaced by a new, bouncier version. Moving your mouse over the interactive Google doodle sends balls careening around the screen before they reform to spell out “Google”. Unlike past Google homepage treats though, there’s no explanation for the bouncy logo. So what does it mean?

The bouncy Google homepage is the search giant’s third interactive Google doodle after a playable Google Pacman logo earlier this year and a tribute to the Buckyball (a spherical collection of carbon molecules) which popped up over the weekend. But while both of those came with a clickable explantation, the bouncing balls remain a mystery.

Currently the bouncy Google homepage is only viewable on Google.co.uk with the main Google homepage and regional variants like Google.ie packing the ordinary static logo. We’ve been chatting at Electricpig Towers and suspect the bouncy Google homepage might have something to do with Google Chrome Experiments and HTML5 (the same tech that powered last week’s awe-inspiring Arcade Fire video).

Take a look at the bouncy Google homepage for yourself and hit the comments to let us know what you think has inspired it? Is it a tease for a new Google product? Or an esoteric celebration of some innovation beloved of the planet-sized brains at the Googleplex?

Reminds me of those fibre optic lights that were all the rage in the 70s, you could brush them with your hand and they returned to their original position.
