FaceTime has made its way to the iPhone, new iPod touch and now looks like crashing onto the iPad too. This leaked spyshot purports to show an iPad with FaceTime and front facing camera in testing by Apple.
The blurry photo nabbed by 9 to 5 Mac seems to show an iPad in the same testing mode we’ve previously seen on leaked iPhone screenshots, listing video calling as an option.
Adding FaceTime to the iPad is an obvious next step for Apple, since the iPod touch is now equipped to make and receive video calls along with the iPhone 4. The question is when Apple will release updated iPad hardware, complete with the required camera(s).
A clue may have been dropped during Steve Jobs’ presentation on September 1st. Recapping the news of software updates for iPhone and iPad, Jobs said that new HDR photography would be coming to the iPad in November following its inclusion in new iOS 4.1 software for the iPhone launching this week. Strange, since the current iPad doesn’t have a camera… or was it just a slip of the tongue?
A camera within the iPad would put it level pegging with the likes of the new Samsung Galaxy Tab and Toshiba Folio 100.
