Android powered PMPs are coming thick and fast. The Samsung Galaxy Player 50 has just been outed, joining the newly official Philips GoGear Connect and Archos Android tablets, and it’s packing a 3.2-inch screen alongside Android 2.1 and Google Experience.
The Samsung Galaxy Player 50 also offers a 2MP camera, DivX video playback, Wi-Fi, GPS, 8GB or 16GB of built-in storage (backed up by a microSD slot allowing you to expand the total storage to 32GB), microphone and an FM radio. The screen is WQVGA, but it’s a regular old LCD rather than a super lovely AMOLED.
So, yep, the Samsung Galaxy Player 50 is pretty much an Android smartphone without the phone. It’ll give you access to the apps in the Android Market, as well as the Google Experience stuff: Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube and the rest.
All things considered, it seems Samsung has put together a PMP package to rival the new iPod touch. We don’t have a release date or pricing info for the Samsung Galaxy Player 50 yet, but we’ll let you know when we do.
