Wireless charging is going standard, and it has the backing of big names like Nokia, BlackBerry, Energizer and Sanyo. The Global Qi wireless power standard was officially launched today, with Energizer revealing the first piece of hardware: the iPhone compatible Energizer Inductive Charger.

Due to launch this autumn, the Energizer Inductive Charger (pictured) will allow you to top up the battery on your iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and BlackBerry Curve 8900, as long as they’re clad in the right charging sleeves. It’s a lot like the Palm Touchstone, but compatible with more kit.

Last year we reported on Nokia’s involvement in the Global Qi standard, and other companies like Olympus, Philips and Samsung are apparently readying their own Global Qi kit. Sanyo, meanwhile, has promised wireless-charging battery packs that’ll work with existing mobile devices. Exciting times for wire-hating gadget fans.
