Satnav maven Mio has just launched its latest in-car GPS kit – and it’s the company’s first piece of gear that buddies up to the iPhone 4. Bearing the somewhat unimaginative name of Mio GPS Car Kit, it features its own powerful GPS receiver, a cradle and Bluetooth talents that turn it into a hands-free speakerphone.

The Mio GPS Car Kit can also deliver its voice directions through the speakers of your car stereo – pretty standard stuff, but handy. And as well as the iPhone 4, it’ll also work with the iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and second generation and up iPod Touch models, and charges the battery of whatever is docked.

You might be wondering why the Mio GPS Car Kit needs its own GPS receiver, given that all the above Apple gear (iPod Touch aside) comes with built-in GPS. Well, Mio says it means you don’t need to rely on a phone GPS – its receiver is more reliable and more powerful. One thing it doesn’t offer is Mio’s own satnav software – although Mio says it will work with “most navigation software” for the iPod Touch and iPhone.

The Mio GPS Car Kit is out this month, and will be sold in Argos stores.

Nice device and I guess a really necessary one when driving a car. However, I guess that $99,99 is a bit to high price for it – as it's almost half of iPhone price.
