If you’ve been in on the BBC iPlayer beta since May, you probably know what to expect, but this is great news for all users of Auntie’s on demand service: the Beeb has just confirmed that the new look, feature packed version of BBC iPlayer will be rolling out universally from early next week.

Speaking on the BBC Internet Blog, head of BBC iPlayer James Hewines confirmed that the new design (pictured) and personalisation features (intelligent recommendations, we first heard about in May will roll out next week. He also gives several interesting stats, noting that between 8 and 10 percent of BBC iPlayer use is in the new beta mode, and that people using it watch more shows on average.

    I really like the beta layout and functionality but I sincerely hope they sort out the stability issues before launch.
    For some reason, videos seem to stutter more (stopping and starting) in the beta than the regular (which is why i switched back out of the beta).

    For me, iPlayers biggest plus point is it's reliability and speed. The beta currently cuts out those two points for me :(
