The Twitter iPad app introduces a brand new user interface that should worry rival apps like Flipboard and Reeder. Clicking a link in a tweet will show the webpage, picture of video in a new pane.

Highlight a tweet in the Twitter iPad app and it’ll stay pinned to the top or bottom of the screen while you scroll through your tweet stream. The Twitter iPad app also uses new multitouch gestures – pinch outwards on a tweet and you’ll more information on the user, swipe down with two fingers and you’ll get the full conversation.

Clicking through to a user profile in the Twitter iPad app also gives you a list of similar users you might want to follow at the bottom of the screen.

The Twitter iPad app also features a logged-out view. If you’re not signed into a Twitter account, you’ll see tweet streams related to popular trending topics.

The official Twitter app is a universal app, so if you’ve already grabbed the Twitter iPhone app, updating it will nab the iPad version too.
